This is the "Tegacky" pager. The name is a pun on "tegaki" which means "Handwriting." It has a 2x3 inch LCD screen, you can write on the screen with a stylus, and send graphic images and text.

Here's another picture of the Tegacky receiving a graphic message.

He says "tanoshikatta yo" (It was fun!") and gives the peace sign.
The next picture is the Casio New Age Mail Communicator PM-C101. Note that it sends images in color.

P-Mail will explode in popularity if its easy enough for teenage kids to send messages like this. It's all set to take off, it uses the existing text-pager broadcasting system, and has the cutest new user-friendly features.
Update - Nov 12, 1999: I recently read an article that described the near collapse of the Japanese pager industry. These products were the last attempt to keep customers using pagers, when everyone is switching to portable phones with paging services. Two major pager networks have gone out of business, and the rest are all on the brink of collapse. Even a clever design like this can't save you from a change in the marketplace!
