Dread Pirate Crosby!!

So now I've got a decent computer, an IBM Aptiva. Not a bad little piece of hardware. I got myself an ISP, Internet Navigator Inc., that I could call locally and surf the net. Prior to that, I had accessed the net from work, on a *YUCK* Mac. I quickly bookmarked the sites I had found before and in reexamining them I noticed that they refered to a thing called Telnet. It seemed there was a way to hook up with a BBS other than a direct phone call. I immediatly tried it out!

I was able to telnet quite easily, and gained access to one of the bigtime boards. I got into the game and started drooling; 65 other traders were out there in the new universe, all with significant Rank and Exp. I had found the motherload!!

The downer was that I couldn't get my helper to work. Believe me, I tried everything! You just can't get a computer to do what you want by yelling. So, back to the drawing board. I continued to surf and started posting on people's pages asking if any others had my problem.

I found that others had solved this problem by calling a local BBS and using that BBS's telnet service to log on to a different BBS. No help to me, I live in Iowa. No big towns, no big boards. Back to my ISP--Telnet system, I played by hand. (Very Poorly!)

My big break came from reading Eleq's post on Gypsy's Forum. He claimed to have a system to convert PPP to DOS, thus feeding my helper some data it could digest. I got me a copy of TurboCom Pro and Com I/P and set it up. Before I knew it, I was hooked up and rolling! Now, where to go?

Again I turned to Gypsy's forum. Most games announce their reBangs there and I followed up a couple. As a lone trader, I had no allies. I just started up a game and explored around, trying to hook up with a corp. somewhere.

Actually, this is where you find me. I have started searching for a game to make my own. My tactics? Depends on the board. I don't try to colonize at all if possible. Ideally, I get in on the start of a game, get some cash, go evil and start makin' money. When I fill my Corp. Flag with Fighters, I get another. After it is filled, I start stockpiling my fighters in a dead end sector. When I see the citadel percentage rise on the Version screen, that's my sign to look for a home. :) Not My home, you understand, a cit. that some good guy has graciously colonized for me. I sit at stardock and blow off a couple of hundred e-probes, exploring every crevice of the punyverse. When my enemies are discover, I pounce.

Sound easy? Sound fun? Join me!! Find a branch of Prime EVIL, my corp, and sign up!! Drop me a line. I have several openings...
