One of our workshop coordinators, Karen Jackson, has confirmed that we are pleased to have the return of Lorena Gasse and Ariel Barrionuevo from Argentina--the Tango couple known as Lorena & Ariel--to Iowa City for their 5th visit to teach Tango!
They will be here September 18-19-20, 2009
They have visited Iowa City in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008. We are looking forward to seeing them again, and learning from their energetic, yet relaxed and supportive style.

Lorena Gasse and Ariel Barrionuevo, from Argentina, are known to the USA tango community for their sense of profound joy in their dancing. They have their own dance company in Argentina and have delighted audiences and students worldwide with their unique interpretations. They taught and performed at the 2007 International Chicago Tango Fest, August 23-26, 2007, Palmer House Hilton, Chicago.
Ariel Barrionuevo & Lorena Gasse
Lorena Gasse and Ariel Barrionuevo are known to the USA tango community for their sense of profound joy in their dancing. They have their own dance company in Argentina and have delighted audiences and students worldwide with their unique interpretations.
Ariel Barrionuevo began his career in dance in 1982, studying Argentine folk dance and Latin American dance.
Since 1996, he has partnered with Lorena Gasse and the couple has been giving independent performances as well as participating with several dance companies in Cordoba, Argentina, including the Great Argentine Ballet, the Popular Dance Group and the Latin Blood Company, with which they toured to Havana, Cuba and Santiago, Chile.
In 2003, Ariel and Lorena participated in the most prestigious Argentine folkloric festival in Cosquin, Cordoba.
In 2005 they were the finalists from Cordoba in the worldwide tango competition and were also awarded the prize for the Most Promising New Dance Couple. In that same year they began working for the Secretary of Art and Culture of the National University of Rio Cuarto, presenting shows and offering workshops.
Ariel and Lorena currently work as dancers and coordinators of "El Arrabal, Casa de Tango" and are tango dance choreographers for the Dance Projection Group.
