Dear Tango Dancers,
In this newsletter:
*review of July workshop
*September workshop information
*Recuerdo Club milonga dates
"We had another wonderful tango workshop with Carlos and Michelle at the end
of July. Everyone I spoke to felt that Carlos and Michelle were inspiring
and very giving. Not only did I learn from our instructors, I also learned
from the other dancers and realized something important. The more
accomplished dancers came to every session, even the introductory ones, and
practiced, practiced, practiced. They refined their ochos, pivots, crusadas,
walk and lead/follow , etc. They worked on every nuance, no matter how basic
the step. They took advantage of the coaching from professional teachers to
improve their dancing. So, while I also learned new steps, more importantly,
I learned that every moment of instruction helps me to be a better dancer."

In fact, there is an international Argentine Tango chat group
(TANGO-L@MITVMA.MIT.EDU) who were discussing this very thing. One of the
participants noted that good teachers often teach whole classes focused on
pivoting, for instance. This is because the advanced moves require a firm
foundation in the basics.
We now have a core tango community dedicated to the dance. We want to
especially thank Felipe for bringing new dancers to join us. He has done so
much to create the community here and we all benefit from his efforts. Now
we're asking everyone to help keep our group lively. If you've attended
Saturday classes before, and bring a new dancer to the Friday night session,
you'll get in for free.
September Workshop:
Our next workshop will be structured a bit differently. Friday, September 5,
is also ArtWalk in Fairfield. We are planning a tango demonstration from
7:00 to 8:30 pm. We are asking our dancers to dance in 20 minute "shifts"
while the public is coming in to view art and watch the tango. Please let us
know what time you are available so that we can arrange for several dancers
on the floor at all times. Don't worry about your skill level--we want the
public to understand that we are learning this beautiful dance. Carlos and
Michelle will also be dancing with us. From 9:00 to 10:00 we'll have a Level
I class.
We've now had four workshops with a group of dancers who have attended a
majority of the classes. It's time to divide the workshop into Level I and
Level II classes. Friday night and the first two classes on Saturday will be
Level I. The two Saturday afternoon classes and Sunday morning class will be
Level II classes. As we mentioned above, it is always recommended that you
attend Level I classes, no matter how advanced you are, to refine technique.
Those classes are open to all dancers. The Level II classes are open only to
those dancers who have completed Level I classes or a prior workshop. There
will still be package discounts and a discount for those who have attended
previous workshops.
The workshop details are:

The Gala:
Thank you to all of our dancers who went to the Chicago Gala. It was such a
beautiful affair and the Chicago Athletic Association was very elegant. It
was truly a magical night. This will be an annual event--you won't want to
miss the next one.
