Ballet Contemporaneo de Santa Fe in Tenerife, Spain, directed by Ana Maria Narvaja will spend two weeks in Iowa City, IA, USA, teaching, creating new dance works, rehearsing, performing, and jamming with the community. From Spain we have Ana Maria, Eduardo, Leandro, Saskya, Tania, and Eduardo Jr.

I just finished talking with Ana Maria (Ballet Contemporaneo) and she explained the three main programs they are coming with:
"Desde el Alma", a 30 minutes long production mixing contemporary dance with tango and argentine waltz.
"Ces't la Vie", 40 minutes long co-production with Habeas Corpus, also putting together balletjazzmodernballroomtangowaltz.
And a Social dance program (demo, performance, and instruction if wanted) including tango, milonga, tango canyengue, waltz, salsa, merengue, isas, and folias (the last two are traditional, popular dances from Tenerife).

Dance Company members hosted a Free Tango Lesson on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at the weekly Iowa City Tango Club Practica held at Wesley Center near downtown Iowa City. The hall was PACKED, and after a lesson and some great dance demonstrations of Tango, Vals, and later Milonga, it turned into a very animated Mini-Milonga (tango dance party)! It was a High Energy Evening! GK

A donation of $1.00 per person is requested for use of the hall. Additional donations are accepted for covering incidentals to put on the practica.

Don't forget--we also hold a MILONGA (Argentine Tango Social Dance Party) up to two times a month (generally the 2nd and 4th Saturdays!). Everyone is invited!
