SOCIAL: Ballrm Dance Club social & XMAS party (Fri's; Dec 8,15) =======
The Iowa State University (ISU) Ballroom Dance Club hosts free
Friday-night dance practices and socials that are open to _everyone_.
Our music is mostly big band with modern music used for the swing and
fox trot. Singles are welcome, and you don't have to have a partner.
Dress is casual; however, indoor-type shoes or socks must be worn on
the studio floor. The practices are held on the ISU Campus in the
Forker Building, studio 196 (Toman Studio), from 7:30-9:45pm on most
Friday evenings during fall and spring semesters when ISU is in session.
The exceptions to our weekly Friday meetings are listed below:
Dec 8: Christmas party. No change in time or place.
Yes, there will be goodies for all. Everyone welcome.
Dec 15: Dance practice meets in the Gallery Room of the
ISU Memorial Union.
Dec 22 thru Jan 5: No practice over the university Christmas recess.
Practice resumes January 12, 2007.
DANCE: Ballroom Dance Co "Dance the Halls," ISU (Sun; Dec 10) =========
The ISU Ballroom Dance Company is hosting "Dance the Halls," an
afternoon holiday dance performance followed by a social ballroom dance
on Sunday, December 10, beginning 4:30pm, in Great Hall of the ISU
Memorial Union. Refreshments provided.
Adm $5 for students; $10 for non-students at the door or adv. Also
performing are the University of Iowa Swing and Lindy Club, and the

LATIN WEBSITE: New Latin music & dance website for central Iowa =======
Moderator's note: This new Latin music and dance website is similar to
Addicted2salsa, but is focused more on central Iowa activities;
whereas, Addicted2salsa is more Iowa/national. Links to both are at

The Latin Rhythmz DJ Service and Sergio Correa have launched a new
website dedicated to articles about musical (artists, albums, events)
and dance interests for salsa and merengue. Moreover, after a one-time
registration, subscribers can even post comments/discussion on these
articles. This site also announces Latino dance venues featuring Latin
Rhythmz DJing. Their central Iowa venues include Hotel Fort Des
Moines, the Raccoon River Brewing Company, and Keysters in Urbandale.

SALSA LESSON/DANCE: Salsa night, DSM (Fri; Dec 29) ====================
It's time for Salsa! Una Noche Salsera with DJ Sergio Correa & DJ
Henry and their Latin Rhythmz from 9pm-1:30am, Friday, December 29, at
Hotel Fort Des Moines Grand Ballroom, 10th & Walnut Street, downtown
DSM. Music includes salsa, merengue, cumbia, bachata, and cha cha.
All ages welcome; cash bar, ID required for alcohol. Attire is casual

Salsa lesson from 8-9pm with Ruben Zamudio; no partner required. In
addition, in the spirit of the coming new year, hor'dourves and a

CLASSES: Ballroom classes for spring sem, ISU (start Jan 19,23) =======
The tentative class schedule for the ISU Ballroom Dance Club's spring
class offerings is now available as "get ball.classes+social" on the
list server. Follow the usual list server example at the bottom of
this e-mail. The finalized schedule will be e-mailed by January 17.
LESSON: Descarga salsa lessons, ISU (Fridays, now-Dec 8) ==============
ISU's Latin dance club, Descarga, hosts beginner, intermediate, and
advanced salsa lessons every Friday, from now thru December 8, from
7-9pm, in the ISU Memorial Union; check the MU's posted schedule for
specific location. Most meetings are in the Gallery Room. Exceptions
are Nov 24, Pioneer Room.

TANGO: Argentine tango class & soc, Ames (Sundays, now-Dec 17) ========
Valerie Williams is teaching Argentine tango on these Sunday night(s):
Dec 10 at Cafe Diem on 229 Main Street in downtown Ames, and Dec 17 in
213 Forker, ISU Campus. Beginning lesson and technique from 4:30-5pm,
followed by a dance social from 5-7pm with a featured intermediate
figure taught around 6pm.
$5 for the evening. No partner required, register at the meeting.

Every Tuesday night, from ~9:30pm-1am, dance salsa at Keysters, 3280
100th St, one block south of Douglas on 100th St across from Stella's
Blue Sky Diner, Urbandale (DSM). Music includes Latin house, salsa,
merengue, bachata, and Latin pop, with music by DJ Julian. Must be 21+
$5 adm. Free dance lesson about 8:30pm w/Ruben Zamudio. Attire is

Swing Des Moines! hosts monthly swing dances from 8-11pm, at the West
Des Moines Community Center located on 217 5th Street, in Valley
Junction, West Des Moines IA, on the third Friday of each month.
There's a free an introductory swing lesson from 8-8:30pm. Adm $5 or

Date: Fri, 09 Feb 2001 16:22:41 CST From: owner-ballroom-dance@iastate.edu To: ballroom-dance@iastate.edu Subject: ISU Ballroom Dance Club and cancellations Follow ballroomers-- For all those asking, if the University (ISU) cancels _evening_ classes, the ISU Ballroom Dance Club does too. This has always been true. For those not connected to the University, you can check to see if _evening_ classes have been canceled by going to either the http://www.kcci.com web page (The TV station lists lots of cancellations.) or ISU's web page at http://www.iastate.edu Concerning the Friday socials and practices, if Recreation Services leaves the Forker Building open, then we _will_ meet for Friday practice in 196 Forker beginning at 7:30pm. You have to go to the http://www.iastate.edu cancellation news and scroll down to "more weather related announcements" to get information on the gym closing on the ISU campus. For today, what does this mean? Since the University canceled classes, the ISU Ballroom Dance Club's Friday class at 6:30pm is also canceled. Since the http://www.iastate.edu web page currently indicates that the Forker Building will remain open (along with other gyms), the Club will still meet for our social/practice at 7:30pm. So, if you're a die-hard dancer, we hope to see you at the Friday practice tonight. :-)
