In these practices work on beginning elements you've learned in classes. If there are new folks present, the first hour some of the more intermediate folks will assist with basic tango walking, stopping, and practice and formal dance positions. The 2nd half of the evening intermediate dancers will work on what they've learned in class or from each other and concentrate on this if they wish, or continue with open dancing.
Beginning Tuesday, June 5, 2007, Iowa City Tango Club will move it's Practica to a new location. It will be holding it's Tuesday Practica at the Iowa City Senior Center, 28 S. Linn Street. This will be a trial program through the summer at this point. We will be "partnering" with the Senior Center to bring Tango Practica to this new location as a Senior Center Activity Group. Adults of all ages are welcome!
Update: July 31, 2007--Beginning tonight we will hold Practica in the upstairs Main Hall. Large Room, Wood Floor, High Ceiling, Excellent Sound, Nice Ambience for dancing Tango! Come up the main stairway on Linn Street. Doors open 7:00PM and close 8:30PM for security.
Day and Time will be the same: Tuesdays, 7:30-9:30PM. There is No Charge for these practices. Feel free to bring treats to share. No alcoholic beverages, please.
The Senior Center (also known simply as, "The Center,") is air conditioned, located in the downtown area, with nearby parking in the adjacent ramp in addition to on street and other ramp parking. It is in the Old Post Office building on the NE Corner of Linn and Washington Streets.
This Tuesday session is a traditional OPEN PRACTICA. The evening will be open for general tango practice and dancing. There will be no group formal lesson component. Newcomers who have not had experience with tango will be given a short basic introduction into tango walking, stopping, and practice and dance frame. There is no charge for this Tango Practica (unless we have a special visiting Guest Instructor). Feel free to bring treats to share. No alcoholic beverages please. Share your skills and passion for Tango.
HOW TO GET INTO THE SENIOR CENTER BUILDING--MAIN HALL
(THE OLD IC POST OFFICE)
For the Tuesday night practices people can come into the building two ways, the Linn Street entrance (up the stair-front of building) which leads directly to the Main Hall. You can also come in the 2nd floor Skywalk from the parking ramp directly north of The Center.
Those coming in from the parking ramp will need to go down the hall and take the elevator or stairs to the 1st Floor.
Since the Tuesday night practices run from 7:30PM to 9:30PM City staff will leave the outside doors unlocked until 8:30PM. The inside doors and elevator will remain unlocked until 10:00PM so everyone will be able to use the elevator and stairs to exit. The Senior Center Staff lock the outside doors 1/2 hour after any event that occurs after hours for safety measures.
Hosts are Greg & Jane K.
Practica is made possible through a partnership with the Iowa City Senior Center and Iowa City Tango Club as a Senior Center Activity Group. Adults of all ages are welcome! Dress in comfortable clothes; leather bottom shoes work best.
Don't forget--we also hold a MILONGA (Argentine Tango Social Dance Party) up to two times a month (generally the 2nd and 4th Saturdays!). Everyone is invited! Check the web link for dates and location of most current Milonga. The 2nd Saturday Milonga will be held in the Main Hall of the Senior Center-28 S. LInn Street. The 4th Saturday Milonga will be held at the Wesley Center-120 N. Dubuque Street.
