Evening Group Class Arranged and Coordinated by Juan Marcos, Greg Kovaciny & Gail Ireland
News Flash #2--Robert Hauk in Iowa City Friday night, too!
We had a great group last night for Robert's impromptu informal class.
Iowa City Tango Club has been able to arrange another evening with
Robert tonight, Friday, May 18, 2007, before he heads out on the
highway towards Indianapolis to race his '67 truck in the Indy 500.
Well, and do some tango too
Class at 7:00PM - $15.00 per person - Wesley Center - 120 N. Dubuque - Iowa City
It will be a continuation of last night's work on walking (if you think walking in tango is something you already know...well, let's say I know I know a bit about it and now I know it even better!), with more pieces and elements put into the mix.
You DO NOT have to have attended Thursday class to come to or benefit from tonight's.
All levels can benefit from the presentation of material Robert is doing. I saw all levels of dancers working at their own level and making improvements.
Come on down to Wesley tonight.
And to round out our impromptu mini-fest, we have a great day planned on Saturday with Nina Tatarowicz from Chicago/Milwaukee/Buenos Aires with a range of group classes beginning at NOON, followed by a Milonga in the evening.
This is Nina's 3rd visit and I know Jane and I and others in our group have made great strides with what she's presented to us and to the class.
Make it a tango weekend in Iowa City!
Greg Kovaciny, Iowa City Tango Club
It might be fun to do a class that is a ground up development of the close embrace. I develop the embrace and the walking and point out what is important to dancing well in the close embrace, and how it differs from the open embrace.
(Text by Robert--Emphasis by GK:) This is useful for everyone to know regardless of what they will end up dancing. It should help them unravel what they learn from various teachers they encounter who probably don't all dance the same embrace.
I will tailor the class to the level of the people present. since this is more of a technique class--though it is suitable for a wide range of experience levels. Everyone will work at their own level.
We will have to play it by ear about privates on Thursday evening because there is going to be a class. Since my next stop is Indianapolis I could do lessons on Friday though. I could leave on Saturday for Indy, it should be possible to make it in one long day of driving. I will have a couple of days there to rest before starting regular classes.
I charge $60 per hour for private lessons.
GK: So--fellow dancers--Come on down to Wesley Thursday Night!
Amazingly, I was able to switch my schedule (I now work Thursday nights), so Jane and I will both be there!
See you there!
Greg
Well-known and well-respected Portland Tango Instructor and DJ Robert Hauk is stopping in Iowa City this Thursday, May 17 on his way to points East. See Robert's homepage for more about his work and vision of tango. He is widely sought after in festivals throughout the continent.
A number of Iowa City Tango Club members have studied with Robert at different conferences in the last couple years, and have enjoyed his teaching and benefited from his insights into tango. This is a brief oppportunity, but one certainly worth doing if you are able. We hope to be able to have Robert back in the future for a weekend of tango instruction.
He said he would like to teach a group class if there was interest. Quite a few folks at last night's IC milonga indicated they were interested! He realizes this is short notice--as he noted in an email to Juan "I didn't contact you before now because I really didn't know what would happen, and exactly when I would be able to get away."
I am sending this out as a quick note so if you are so inclined you may have time to adjust your schedules as possible so you can come this Thursday.
(Depending on when he plans on arriving in town (perhaps early afternoon??), he might be available for some private lessons. Contact Juan Marcos (and cc: me, please) if you are interested in a private lesson if available before the evening group.
Firm details: cost and location and time (class probably beginning at 7:00PM) when they are available shortly.
After the lesson there will be time for practica/mini-milonga to keep the energy going!
Thanks,
Greg
Juan
