MORE BACKGROUND ON VALERIE WILLIAMS
Valerie Williams, independent dancer, choreographer & Tango instructor in Ames, Iowa, loves to move. Her energy and sensitivity to the audience let her dance in a way that is highly expressive and delightfully clear. As a much sought after residency artist, she communicates not only the discipline but the joy of dance as well.
In the tango, unlike most modern ballroom dances, one dances the melody of the music, not just the bass line. Valerie Williams teaches students how to dance the melody by teaching improvisation as well as steps; practical dance technique; leading from the intention of movement rather than simply manipulating a partner.
Valerie will continue with the same technique philosophy that Tomas began in his workshops, concentrating especially on connection, posture and giving directions and rotations. Students will also learn some essential vocabulary, such as double time, giro, and crusado. Then, we'll put those basics together into figures. Time will also be given for Ladie's choices in movement.
