This is the account of a trip taken into Knife Lake in July, 1996, by Kevin and Kyle King.
7/19/96
Ten and one-half hour drive from Iowa City to Grand Marais, with two stops for road construction
near New Hampton, Iowa and St. Paul, Minnesota.
Stayed at Super 8 in G. Marais. Ate like we expected to fast for next eight days. Tried Lena's and
Inga's Mex-Am restaurant. Kyle talked to Inga, who was really a very friendly Gail.
We also had donuts. They were good, no matter what Ron S. says about them.
The U.S. Forest Service station moved to the west end of town. Apparently needed room for larger bldg.
and more parking. We were again orally quizzed over info presented in a BWCA video. I continue to
find this somewhat insulting.
Grand Marais was cool and sunny. Two Harbors was 58 degrees when we passed through at about
2:00 p.m.
