ICARC: Iowa City Amateur Radio Club

HamRad

HamRad is the emergency communications response arm of the Iowa City Amateur Radio Club. Working in conjunction with Johnson County Homeland Security/Emergency Management, state emergency management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security (FEMA) in time of disaster or other designated communications emergency events, HamRad can provide local, regional and national communications ability to backstop and supplement existing communications networks. Periodic training exercises are held to simulate emergency communications situations as well as to provide training opportunities for HamRad members and local disaster response groups.

Various modes of communications can be utilized to meet the communications need as designated by the Johnson County Emergency Management Agency. These can include HF Morse code or SSB voice, VHF voice FM-repeater, or Digital packet radio modes, as needed.

All interested radio amateurs in Johnson country are invited to participate in this group no matter what your current license level is. Membership in the Iowa City Amateur Radio Club is not a requirement, though it is encouraged.

Please read the HamRad Operations Manual at the pages linked below. This is only the beginning of our work in defining the structure and operations of HamRad. You thoughts and ideas a most definitely needed!
