This is a tour of the South Amana village in the Amana Colonies. Come with me
as we walk back in time and visit this town as it was around the turn of the century.
I hope you have a nice visit!
Purpose of these pages:
The goal of this site is to present the local history (and that of the Amana Colonies)
in an interactive and interesting way. This is the first such site ( and my first
site). The reason for South Amana being picked is that I am originally from there
and wished to share my knowledge with others that may be interested. The
history in South Amana is a fair representation of what went on in the other villages.
So- if you are planning to visit or just want to learn a little more- this is
the place to do it! I hope that this peaks your interest enough to visit and that
you get a taste of the "real" Amana, not just the commercial version
of it!
How this site works:
This is the welcome page. In the pages that follow you will find a map, pictures,
and paragraphs about the history of particular sites within South Amana. The
main page is a map of the town. This will allow you to access any building or
site of historical significance in the map. Just click on what you want to see
and use the back button or link at the bottom of the page to return to the main
map. This site is viewed best at 480 x 640 or 600 x 800. Pictured as background
is the Ronneburg Castle where the spirit of Amana started in 1714.
I have completed the text for every page. Not all pages have pictures. They
will when I get completely done! Last updated on August 7, 2000. Click
