Cow Barn (Dairy Barn)

This building was made of rough boards on a wooden beam frame. I was unable to ascertain the construction date, as has been pretty typical for farm structures. If anyone has any information pertaining to these things, I would greatly appreciate the help!

This building was standing until the 1960s. There was a brick milk house east of the barn. Traditionally, the milk from the cows was used in the communal kitchen. For more information on this click here. After the communal kitchens were no longer in service, the milk was sold to locally for financial gain. This took place almost until the building was torn down as far as I was able to tell.

The area where the barn stood is still used for cattle. They no longer have dairy cattle. Almost all of the society stock is sold for beef.
