This residence is a unique one in South Amana. It has a style of a communal kitchen, and placement of such too. It was not a kitchen. All of the information that I was able to find shows that it was only a residence previous to 1932. It was built in 1860 from the local brick. It is still standing.
This large house was more than just a residence after the change. It was a beauty shop. I think that all of the people in my family went there at one time. I got my first hair cut there. The woman who ran it was a character! Katey told it like it was and was full of stories. It was closed in the 1980s.
