Grain Storage / Carriage House

This building known as the Remuse (the u should have an umlaut--two dots that go above a letter) or Fruchthaus was built for grain and equipment storage. It is located between Highway 220 and the Post Office. The construction dates of most farm buildings were not written down anywhere that I was able to find.

Grain was stored upstairs. Wagons were able to enter the building from either the east or west doors and be loaded by chutes in the ceiling. This was not the main granary in South Amana. For more information about that building, click here.

This building was also used to house the fancy carriage used by the hotels. This carriage was used as a shuttle between the Upper South and Lower South Amana hotels.
