This building was built in 1858 from the local brick. This is one of the earlier buildings in South made from the local brick. If one closely examines the color variance among the houses in South, a very keen eye notes subtle differences in color tone. This really takes up close observations. Most of the privately-owned homes and buildings are not accessible to those wanting a closer look. Please respect the town's private property! :)
This is an interesting smaller home in South. There is a small brick chicken house in the back, west end, and a rather large yard. The communal use for this building was as a home (wohnhaus). The central location within the town allowed the elders to house a variety of different families here. These families could have worked anywhere in town. Most likely the residents worked in the kitchens and craft shops.
There were stories during the early 1900s about an elderly woman that lived in the house. She was at least 100 years old. My oma always makes a point to remind me that people didn't live to be that old "in those days". I'm not sure if the woman's age or actions prompted the stories, but they are intriguing. My oma wished them not to be shared. She is very conscientious about letting out stories!
This building is still standing and is a private residence.
